D.C.M. London Gazette 9 July 1917. ‘No.1366 Corporal (A/Sgt.), 2nd Bn.’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has consistently performed good work throughout, and has at all times set a fine example of gallantry and leadership’.

A copied newspaper report, dated 4 May 1918, states that he was invalided to Oxfordshire having been badly gassed in recent severe fighting.
