Jonathan Tilly (Tiley) was born at Colerne, near Bath, Somerset, and enlisted at Bath on 4 April 1805, aged 16 years, for unlimited service. He was ‘wounded by a shell in action at the siege of Burgos 1812 and also by a musket ball in the upper part of the right thigh at Pampeluna in 1813.’ He was discharged at Halifax on 31 October 1826, due to wounds and length of service.
