Alexander Leitch was born in Kirkaldy, Fife, and attested for the 91st Foot at Dundee on 30 August 1838. He served in the Cape of Good Hope for a total of thirteen and a half years and ‘is in possession of a medal for the Kaffir War, 1846 & 1847, 1850, ‘52 & 1853.’
