Carl Titus attested for the Cape Auxiliary Horse Transport Corps on 29 March 1917. He embarked for France on 20 April 1917 and landed on 23 May. There, he was taken on to the strength of No. 22 Company, C.A.H.T.C. and served until July 1919. He returned to South Africa in August 1919 and was discharged on 28 September 1919.

The C.A.H.T.C. was formed in 1916 and served in France as part of the Army Service Corps.
