Sutlej 1845-46, for Sobraon 1846 (Cornet Lord James De Burgh Browne 9th Lancers) extremely fine £800-1000
Lord James de Burgh Browne was born in 1823, the third son of the 2nd Marquess of Sligo, and was educated at Eton and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He purchased his commission as Cornet in the 9th Lancers on 7 July 1843, which regiment he joined in India at Cawnpore. He was present at the battle of Sobraon as Aide-de-Camp to Lord Gough, Commander-in-Chief. At the conclusion of the Sutlej campaign, Browne returned to England where he purchased, on 8 May 1846, the commission of a Lieutenant in the 10th Hussars. He subsequently embarked aboard the Precursor to join his new regiment in India but died at sea in February 1847 and was buried at Suez.
