Four: Chief Ship’s Cook A. W. Bull, Royal Navy

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, no clasp (152535 Ch. Cook, H.M.S. Redbreast) impressed naming; British War and Victory Medals (152535 Ch. Sh. Ck., R.N.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (Sh. Cook, H.M.S. Good Hope) first and last with contact marks, nearly very fine and better (4) £160-200

Austin Wilfred Bull was born in Shanklin, Isle of Wight on 30 January 1872. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted as an Acting 2nd Cook’s Mate on the Duke of Wellington on 31 January 1890, being confirmed in that rank in March 1890. He was advanced to Cook’s Mate in September 1892 when on Victory I and to 2nd Ship’s Cook in January 1896 when on Comus. He served on Redbreast March 1900-June 1902, being promoted to Ship’s Cook in October 1900. Bull was promoted to Chief Cook in June 1905 when on Victory and Chief Ship’s Cook in October 1907 when on Terrible. He was Pensioned on 5 February 1912 but returned for service during the Great War, serving on Victory I and III and on Royalist. With copied service papers.
