A veteran of the Boer War, during which he served in the Scots Guards and was awarded the Queen’s Medal & 6 clasps, he enlisted in the C.E.F. at Edmonton in February 1915, and was posted to the 49th Battalion. Wounded in action on 4 April 1916, he was later reported as ‘Missing’, and later still as killed in action on the 5th.
