Provenance: Glendining, May 1937.

John Tallis was born in the Parish of ‘Sully Hill’ [Solihull], Warwickshire, and enlisted into the 4th Foot at the age of 18 on 7 June 1804. He was transferred to the 8th Regiment of Royal Veterans on 24 March 1814, and was discharged at Fort Cumberland on 4 July 1814, in consequence of ‘hernia and His Majesty having no further occasion for his services.’
