India General Service 1895-1902, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (4084 Pte. W. Knee 2d. Bn. Ryl. Suss: Regt.) good very fine £140-£180

Walter Knee was born in Birmingham in 1874 and attested for the Royal Sussex Regiment at Chichester on 12 October 1892, having previously served in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. He served with the 2nd Battalion in India from 10 December 1894 to 23 January 1899, where he saw action with the Tirah Expeditionary Force in 1897, and was severely wounded by gunshot to the right shoulder at Baarg on 27 December 1897. Returning home on 24 January 1899, he subsequently served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 26 August 1901 to 15 September 1902. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 11 March 1903, and was discharged on 11 October 1908, after 16 years’ service.
