A signed letter from the Duke of Feltre, Napoleon’s Minister of War and a Marshall of France, dated Paris, 24 October 1811, to the General Commanding the 5th Military Division, giving orders that all British Officers, sailors and soldiers who attempt to escape are to be arrested and to be brought back to the Fort of Briançon, folded, and with minor creasing at extremities, but otherwise in very good condition £60-£80

Henri Jacques Guillaume Clarke, 1st Duke of Feltre, (1765-1818) was one of the most influential and charismatic Franco-Irish generals in the French army during the Napoleonic period. Nominated General on 10 May 1793, he was appointed Minister of War in 1807, and for his role during the Walcheren Campaign in 1809 was created Duke of Feltre. Following Napoleon’s first abdication in 1814 he pledged his allegiance to Louis XVIII, who created him a Marshal of France in 1816.
