Three: Private D. Eke, 37th Foot, late 1st Foot

Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol, unnamed as issued; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1823 Pte. D. Eke. 37th. Foot); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, unnamed as issued, pierced with ring suspension, very fine and better (3) £240-£280

David Eke was born Guestwick, Norfolk, in December 1836 and and attested for the 1st Regiment of Foot at Norwich on 14 October 1854, aged 17 years 10 months. He served with the 1st Foot in the Crimea, and subsequently in India, before transferring to the 37th (North Hampshire) Regiment of Foot on 1 August 1870. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, together with a gratuity of £5, on 8 December 1873, and was discharged on 21 December 1875, after 21 years and 8 days’ service, of which 17 years and 8 months had been spent soldiering in India.
