Richard Henry Gorey (‘Ghorey’ on medal) was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire on 7 January 1873. A Chemist’s Assistant by occupation, he enlisted into the Navy on 1 October 1895. Appointed 2nd Class Sick Berth Steward on 1 May 1900, he attained the rank of Chief Sick Berth Steward on 24 September 1916. During the Great War he was mainly based at Plymouth Hospital. Gorey was discharged with a pension in 1919. Sold with copied service papers.
