One of approximately 21 Military Medals awarded to the 17th Lancers for the Great War.

Harry Manser Smith was born in Eastbourne and attested for the 17th Lancers, serving with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 8 November 1914. He was awarded his Military Medal as part of a batch awarded for operations on the Western Front during August 1918, one of 12 M.M.s. awarded to the Regiment for services in connection with the Allied offensive on the Western Front during August 1918.
