Ghuznee 1839 (Pt. John Dibble, XIII P.A.L.I.) edge with regimentally impressed naming, replacement silver straight bar suspension, edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine £450-500

John Dibble was born in Stowey, Somerset. A labouer by occupation, he attested for the Somerset Light Infantry on 3 January 1836, aged 19 years. He was discharged at Chatham on 11 August 1846. Sold with copied service papers which provide a summary of his service, ‘Served with the Army of the Indus during the Campaigns in Affganistan in the years 1838, 39, 40, 41, and 42. Was present at the storming of Ghuznee in July 1839 and the forts of ? and Joolgah in the Rohistan in 1840. Was present in the ? engagements in forcing the passes from Cabool to Jellalabad in 1841 and in defence of the latter ? in 1841 and 42 Present in the general action at Jellalabad 7th April 1842 at Jugdulluck 8 September Tazeen 13 September and the recapture of Cabool 15th September 1842’.
