General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine (3311873 Pte. W. Burns, H.L.I.) very fine £80-100

William Burns was born on 21 February 1913 and enlisted into the Army on 26 January 1937 and served with the H.L.I. in Palestine. When serving with the 2nd Battalion H.L.I. he was taken prisoner at the fall of Tobruk, 21 June 1942. He was held in the Italian P.O.W. camp No.85, November 1942-June 1943 and No.70, June-September 1943. He was then held in Stalag 4A in Germany. Whilst in the latter he was employed in coal mining. Sold with copied ex-P.O.W. questionnaire.
