John Edward Le Hardy was born on 31 March 1923. Joining the Army, he spent 9 years in the ranks and was a Warrant Officer 2nd Class for 2 years. He was commisioned a Lieutenant 5 October 1953 and promoted to Captain on 5 October 1959. During the Second World War he was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 19 July 1945).
