George Bamford was born in 1866 in the Parish of Toxteth Park, Liverpool, and attested at Shrewsbury on 5 September 1887, for the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, aged 18 years 11 months. He served 7 years 121 days in India and was discharged at Lichfield, on termination of his second period of engagement, on 4 September 1908. He re-enlisted for the Shropshire L.I. as Quartermaster Sergeant on 6 October 1914, and served in a Training Reserve Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers. Bamford received his L.S. & G.C. medal in April 1906, and the award of his Annuity M.S.M. was announced in Army Order 118 of 1946.

James William Bamford was born in 1895 and attested for the Norfolk Regiment on 31 May 1915. According to his Pay Book he served in India and with the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force, and was transferred to the Army Reserve in November 1919.
