William Charles Parkes was born in Hackney and enlisted at Stratford, London. Serving in the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment, he was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 29 October 1914. The son of William Thomas and Annie Parkes of 64 Prince Edward Road, Hackney Wick, London. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
