Distinguished Conduct Medal, E.VII.R. (1713 Tpr. D. Cochrane, S.A.L.H.); Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 6 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Laing’s Nek, Belfast, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (1713 Tpr. D. Cochrane, S.A. Lt. Horse) last two clasps loose as issued, toned good very fine (2) £2500-3000

D.C.M. London Gazette 27 September 1901; recommendation submitted to the King on 8 August 1901; Army Order 15 of 1902.

Private David Cochrane was twice mentioned in despatches; firstly in Buller’s despatch of 19 June 1900 (
London Gazette 8 February 1901), in whch he was noted as having ‘rendered good and valuable service’; and secondly in Roberts’ despatch of 2 April 1901 (London Gazette 16 April 1901) for ‘meritorious service’. Sold with copies of relevant Gazettes and medal roll entries. The South African Light Horse won 12 D.C.Ms. during the course of the Boer War.
