Thomas Percy Barrington was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the West Yorkshire Regiment on 5 February 1887 and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel with the Royal Irish Rifles on 8 June 1915. For his wartime services he was mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 15 June 1916).
