Flintshire, Holywell, Jones, Oldfield, Sankey & Oakley, Shillings (2), both 1811, arms, flintshire bank august 12 1811 around, rev. flintshire one shilling, bank token in centre, knot above and monogram below, 4.06g/6h (D 3); another, similar, rev. knot above and below bank token, 3.98g/6h (D 5) [2]. First almost very fine, second about extremely fine, both toned (£50-60)

The North Wales Bank was established before 1790; by 1811 it had become the Holywell & Flintshire Bank. The proprietors all had interests in mining, and included Richard Sankey, the owner of a colliery and partner in a banking venture at Denbigh, and Thomas Jones, a nephew of the great ironmaster John Wilkinson. The bank was subsumed by the North and South Wales Bank in 1836
