Charles Fowling was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in January 1848.

He was born at Torpoint, Cornwall and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S.
Spencer in November 1815. Variously employed as an Ordinary Seaman, Able Seaman, Guns Crew, and Captain of the Gun, Main Top, Fore Top and Mast, and Captain’s Coxswain, between 1823-50, Fowling was finally discharged ashore in the rate of Captain’s Steward from the Albion in July 1852. He died in February 1857, aged 57 years.
