Congo, Currency Throwing Knife, top double-edged, spur and base single-edged, iron, 66.5 x 19cm (cf. Quiggin pl.1, 20). Blade slightly distressed at curve, handle unbound, otherwise very fine, very rare (£150-200)

Plate II. Although lacking binding to its hilt, its double and single-edged blades suggest this example was fashioned as a weapon. Highly prized as such, it would doubtless have passed as a form of currency
