D.C.M., London Gazette, 5 December, 1918. 'In an attack when the left of his company was in the air and a large party of the enemy trying to work round it in the mist, this WO at once moved up the Lewis Gun to the threatened flank, and, with the Cpl. in charge of the gun, together wiped out the party, capturing any who survived. On another occasion, though badly gassed and wounded in the head, he continued to carry out a recce under very heavy shell fire, and didn't desist until he had obtained most valuable information. Throughout the whole of the operation he displayed fine judgement and splendid courage.

Albert Mitchell joined the 1st Warwicks as R.S.M. in 1923. He was commissioned Quartermaster in 1930 and served with the battalion in Palestine, Egypt and India. Promoted to Captain and Quartermaster in 1938, Mitchell served briefly in the Lincolnshire Regiment and the Pioneer Corps before retiring in August 1941.
