James Kent was born in the Parish of Titchfield, Hants, and attested for the Rifle Brigade at Dover on 15 February, 1858. He served with the 2nd battalion in the closing stages of the Indian Mutiny and in the Ashantee campaign, after which he transferred to the 3rd battalion. He was discharged at Winchester on 18 February, 1879. Sold with copy service papers.
