Edmund James Fraley was born at College Green, Bristol, and enlisted for the Rifle Brigade at Winchester in 1885, aged 19 years. He served in the Nile Expedition 1898 and was wounded at the battle of Omdurman, 2 September, 1898. He was present subsequently at the occupation of Crete in 1898-99, and served during the Boer War at the Defence of Ladysmith. Fraley received the medal for Long Service and Good Conduct, with Gratuity, in 1908, and was discharged at Lincolns Inn, London, in May of the same year. Sold with copy service papers which confirm that he was a casualty at Omdurman and entitlement to all medals.
