Francis George Coleridge was gazetted Ensign in the 42nd Royal Highlanders in January 1856, and served with the 42nd Highlanders in the campaign of 1857-58 against the mutineers in India, including the actions at Cawnpore (6th December 1857), Seriaghat, Khodagunj, and Shumsabad, siege and fall of Lucknow, attack on the Fort of Rooyah, action at Allyghur, attack and capture of Bareilly, and action at Sisseeyahghat. He was mentioned in despatches, awarded the medal with clasp, and promoted to a Lieutenantcy in the 25th Regiment, 12 December 1859. He became Captain by purchase in July 1864 and appears to have retired before 1875.
