THE PROXY MARRIAGE OF JAMES III AND PRINCESS CLEMENTINA SOBIESKI AT BOLOGNA, 1719, a silver medal by O.Hamerani, bust of James right, reverse bust of Clementina left, 49mm (Woolf 37:1 [Sale, lot 103]; M.I. 446/52; E. 485). Skillfully removed from a collar mount [virtually no traces remain], brightly cleaned but extremely fine; with an interesting Jacobite pedigree (£250-300)

Ex Sotheby 30 Sep. 1980 (376): from a small group of Stuart and Jacobite medals once owned by Baroness Burdett-Coutts, acquired from the estate of Lord Braye, to which a number of relics of the Stuart household were bequeathed by Cardinal York, the last legitimate male descendant of James II, on York’s death in 1807
