THE ENDURING APPEAL OF THE ROLEX AIR-KING

Rolex first released the Air-King in 1945 to honour the RAF at the end of the Second World War.

An enduring model and design, it went out of production in 2014, but was reintroduced two years later with a new movement. Since then, it has been updated on almost an annual basis.

Whatever the subtle changes to the new models, all are admired for their solid construction, bold, sporty design and reliability.

Air-Kings are instantly recognisable by their distinctive black dial and large numerals at 3, 6 and 9, with prominent minutes scale for navigational reading.

This circa 2017 model is signed to the case, dial, movement and bracelet and comes with a guarantee card, leather card holder, tags, booklet, pouch, presentation case and outer packaging.

In excellent unused condition and still retaining the protective cover to the bezel and stickers to the clasp, it comes with an estimate of £5,000-£7,000.

"This is another impressive classic design from Rolex, which has endured in various forms for over 75 years and shows no signs of declining in popularity," said Noonans' Watches specialist Joanne Lewis.
