DIAMONDS AND GOLD – A STRIKING COMBINATION

Noonans’ forthcoming sale of Jewellery, Watches, Silver and Objects of Vertu has a wonderfully diverse selection of watches including classic models from the 1920s, ’50s and ’70s through to the stunning modern Pearlmaster wristwatch by Rolex.

The Pearlmaster lady’s gold and diamond-set automatic Rolex dates to around 1997.

The mother-of-pearl dial has diamond-set indexes, and a magnified aperture for the date. The 18ct gold Oyster case, with screw-down back and crown, has a diamond-set bezel and 18ct gold Pearlmaster bracelet.

Case, dial, movement and bracelet are all signed. And the watch comes with its guarantee, wallet, booklets and presentation case. The estimate is £6,000-8,000.

Also on offer will be a gold automatic Oyster Perpetual Chronometer ‘Bubble Back’, c.1950, with a signed case, dial and movement.

It is a reference 6048, one of the many different models that have become known as a ‘Bubble Back’. These early automatic movements are fitted with a large oscillating weight that required additional clearance to move freely, hence the large, dome-shaped case backs.
The estimate is £3,000-5,000.
