Among the best known names in numismatics in the West of England, Michael originally studied for a degree in law at the University of London, financing his studies by buying and selling 18th and 19th century trade tokens and English hammered coins. On graduating, he qualified as a solicitor, while continuing to deal in pre-1660 English, Roman and Celtic coins and 17th century trade tokens.

Michael has some 30 years’ experience as a coin dealer and, with his wife Elizabeth, is a director of Michael Trenerry Coins, primarily a mail order business issuing catalogues of Roman, Celtic, English hammered coins and 17th century tokens.
