Ex MacDougall Collection 1917, and Phillips Collection 1925 (‘from the Payne Collection’).

Approximately 100 clasps issued to European recipients for the battle Laswarree, and approximately 103 clasps for the capture of the fort at Deig.

William Neil was born in 1772 in the Parish of Drumlane, near Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan, and enlisted for the 8th (or King’s Royal Irish) Regiment of Light Dragoons on 3 March 1793, aged 21, for unlimited service. He served a total of twenty-seven years, including sixteen years nine months in India, and was discharged at Meerut on 25 September 1819, in consequence of ‘his being worn out and weakness of the left leg from fracture.’ Returning to England, his discharge was finally confirmed at Horse Guards on 12 September 1820. Sold with copy discharge papers.
