Henry James Marsh joined the R.A.F. at Halton at the age of 18. Marsh later volunteered for pilot training and when he was posted to 11 E. & R.F.T.S., Perth, in February 1939 he was a Sergeant Observer. Marsh went to 2 F.T.S., Brize Norton in May. He was with 238 Squadron at Middle Wallop in early July 1940. On August 11 Marsh claimed a He 111 destroyed. In combat over Portland on August 13 he destroyed a Bf 110 but failed to return to Middle Wallop, probably shot down by Bf 109s, in Hurricane P3177. Marsh was 27. He is remembered on the Runnymede Memorial, Panel 17.
