MILITARY GENERAL SERVICE 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Barrosa (H.M. Wainwright, Lieut., 47th Ft.) some light contact marks, otherwise very fine
Henry M. Wainwrighr was commissioned Ensign in the 47th Regiment, 11th January, 1808, and Lieutenant in the following year. He proceeded to Gibraltar in June, 1809 and was present at the Siege of Cadiz, 1810. Commanded the Grenadier Company, 47th Regiment, at the Battle of Barrosa, 5th March, 1811, and served in the campaign with Major General Skerrett in Andalusia, at the storming of Tarifa by the French on 31st December, 1811, again in command of the Grenadier Company. Lieutenant Wainwright, whose services so far had been with the 2nd Battalion, was ordered to join the 1st Battalion in India in 1813. He was present with the expedition to the Persian Gulf under Major General Sir William Kerr K.C.B., and commanded the whole of the Royal Marines of the Fleet at the siege of Ras-al-Kymer in 1820. Promoted Captain 3rd January, 1826, he served in the Burmese War as Military Secretary to the Madras Division of the Army and A.D.C. to Major General Sir Willoughby Cotton, C.B., then commanding the division, and was mentioned twice in General Orders by that officer. Captain Wainwright retired on 26th November, 1830, at the age of 39 years.
