D.C.M. London Gazette 26 November 1917:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as a stretcher-bearer after all the other bearers were out of action. He continued for 12 hours tending wounded without help in the open and placing them under cover. Later, he carried a badly wounded man in on his back, all under very heavy fire.’

Charles Rush attested for the Essex Regiment at Mayland, Essex, and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War.
