John Walter Pellew served during the Great War initially with the 2nd Imperial Light Horse in German South West Africa, before transferring to the 4th South African Infantry for service on the Western Front on 14 April 1916. He was wounded in action on the Western Front in the left leg on 28 September 1917, and was killed in action on 8 October 1918. He is buried in Beaurevoir British Cemetery, France.
