Guernsey, Imitation Double, reads guernsey, rev. with a red enamel cross in the centre and the date 1915 in the angles, 3.56g/12h (McCammon G63). Good very fine; loop for suspension £40-£50

These curious pieces, of which a few are known, appear to have emanated from a competent mint and the late Anthony Dowle was tempted to suggest in 1995 that Heaton’s had a hand in them. Their nature suggests they were made for fund raising purposes associated with the Red Cross
