Sidney Thatcher served with the 2nd/4th Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (Territorial Force) during the Great War on the Western Front from 24 May 1916, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Manchester Regiment on 26 September 1917. Serving with the 10th Battalion, he was promoted Lieutenant on 26 March 1919, and subsequently transferred to the Welsh Regiment.
Sold with a 6th Battalion Welch Regiment Porthcawl 1923 Inter-Company Rugby Prize Medal, bronze, the reverse engraved ‘Lt. S. Thatcher.’
