D.C.M. London Gazette 28 March 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Although himself wounded, he continued to bring in wounded under very heavy fire for four hours, at the end of which time he was in a state of collapse.’
George Burgess was a native of St. Albans. He served during the Great War with the South Wales Borderers in the French theatre of war from 13 August 1914.
