Medals Related to Motoring & Motor Sport, France, Société Anonyme des Pneumatiques Dunlop, 1922, a bronze medal by R. Baudichon, half-length helmeted figure of worker in rubber plantation, holding a cup for rubber sap and a Dunlop Cord tyre, reverse Dunlop factory at Montluçon above a vignette of John Boyd Dunlop, 63mm (BM Acq. 1978-82, pl.34, 9). Tiny obverse edge nick at 6 o’clock, otherwise very fine, scarce; in red fitted case of issue (£50-60)
John Boyd Dunlop (1840-1921), the Scottish inventor of the pneumatic tyre, started his business in 1888. The medal commemorates the opening of the Dunlop factory at Montluçon on 29 September 1922
