M.C. London Gazette 16 September 1918 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer took command of the battalion when all the senior officers had become casualties. He rallied the men and showed a fine example of leadership and courage, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy, until he was severely wounded.’

Captain Philip Kevin Doyle, M.C. was commissioned into the 2nd Battalion, Leinster Regiment on 5 July 1916. During the Great War he served in France and Belgium from 19 July 1916 to 3 September 1916, and from 23 November 1917 to 10 May 1918, being twice wounded. During the Second War he held the rank of Major with the East Surrey Regiment.
