Sergeant James Wright, 4th Company, 5th Battalion, Royal Artillery, was killed in action at Lucknow on 16 November 1857, the critical day in the relief of Lucknow. The Battery Commander, Captain W. N. Hardy, was also killed on this day as he took the battery into action under a heavy cannonade of shot, shell, and grape.
