Moore, robed figure of Industry seated right, cornucopia under stool, rev. the names of the 16-man committee, 44mm (BHM 2640; Allen Pt 2). Good very fine, toned, very rare; with ornate swivel suspender and clasp, named (Wm. Baxter), original faded crimson ribbon and pin (£70-100)

Plate 5. The exhibition, stage-managed by Darnton Lupton, was arranged in conjunction with the opening of Leeds town hall by Prince Albert on 7 September 1858. Lupton, born in 1807, had been elected Lord Mayor of Leeds in 1844; his medal was in the ‘English’ collection, Glendining’s, 21 March 1990, lot 381. It is believed that the only recipients of the silver medal were the 16 committee members, including William Baxter; all other medals were struck in copper
