British Historical Medals, The Proposed Jacobite Attempt of 1759, a restrike silver medal by M. Young from dies by C.N. Roettiers, bust right, rev. armed Highlander approaches robed figure of Scotia, ships and castle in background, 52mm (Woolf 64:1 [Sale, lot 171]; Eimer 6; MI II, 656/360; E 626). From rusty dies as usual, particularly the reverse; some minor surface marks, otherwise about extremely fine and toned, very rare (£350-450)
Plate 15. The proposed Jacobite attempt of 1759 was thwarted by the loss of most of La Clue’s ships off Lagos on 19 August and the battle of Quiberon Bay on 25 November, so the medal was never struck contemporaneously; it only occurs as a restrike by Matthew Young (see I. Fleming and M. Sharp, ‘The Rejected Medal Attributed and Made Redundant’, The Jacobite 86, Winter 1994, pp.5-6)
