Auction Catalogue
Italy, Kingdom of Savoy, Regie Finanze-Torino, unissued 200-Lire note, 1746, printed in black on cream-coloured paper (Pick S 103). With two small pinholes either side, and edges rather roughly cut, otherwise extremely fine and exceptionally fresh, with just the faintest hints of foxing, rare (£200-250)
The value of the note, one of the earliest examples of Italian paper money, would have equalled the two large Sardinian 100-Lire gold coins; with a combined weight of over 64 gms the equivalent value in sterling would have been about £8, a considerable sum at this time.
See Plate III for illustration.
