CONSTANTINVS AVG TR, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm, 3.00g/6h (RIC –, but p.211, 498 [Solidus]; RSC –). Extremely fine and toned; unpublished in the standard references £900-1,200
The rare heavenward-gazing portrait series of the emperor recalls the portraits of the devinely inspired Hellenistic rulers. The series was struck in gold and silver to coincide with the close of the Council of Nicæa and the vicennalia of Constantine in 326. No silver of this issue is recorded for the mint of Trier in the standard literature
