WORLD ART MEDALS France, Henri Regnault (painter), a large and fine uniface bronze portrait medal by Degeorge, 1881, 120mm. Extremely fine (£80-100)
Charles-Jean-Marie Degeorge (1837-1888). Grand Prix de Rome in 1866 for a medal representing France protecting Algeria . Degeorge exhibited regularly at all the salons. Forrer calls him “among the best of modern Masters” and Marx in an article in the “Studio” “ describes his medals as “endowed with feeling and grace and emotion” and goes on to call Degeorge “a dreamy meditative poet, who came to a premature end in 1888.”
