Dundee ‘People’s Journal Long Servcie Award, silver, the reverse hallmarked 1904 and inscribed ‘Andrew Kyles, 53 Years’, in case of issue, nearly extremely fine and scarce £40-60
Andrew Kyles was born at East Wemyss, Fifeshire, and was employed at farm work before removing to Glasgow in 1852. In June of that year he he entered the employment of Messrs James & George Thomson, engineers and shipbuilders, Clydebank, subsequently taken over by Messrs John Brown & Company, for whom he worked for more than 53 years. He was awarded the People’s Journal Long Service Award by the newspaper on 13 May 1905. Sold with a copy of the relevant news cutting of that date.
