Elginshire Rifle Volunteers, 7th (The Duff) Company (HQ Lhanbryde), an extremely rare die-stamped bronze pouch badge c1863, of near square outline being a portrayal of the family Arms and crest of Sir Alexander Penrose Gordon-Cumming Bart., tri-part scrolls are inscribed, ‘DUFF VOLUNTEER RIFLES’, two screw fasteners; together with the larger corresponding pouch belt plate this in die-cast white metal, same format, two screw fasteners (2), excellent condition £250-350

Gordon-Cumming of Altyre, the 3rd Baronet was the first commanding officer of the 1st Administrative Battalion, Elginshire Rifle Volunteers (1860) Major later Lieut-Colonel, a former Captain in the 4th Light Dragoons and the 71st Highland Light Infantry; as the first Company (Forres) was formed in 1860 with Gordon-Cumming as Captain it is possible that all companies initially bore his Arms on their appointments.
