Charles I (1625-1649), Salopia (Shrewsbury) mint, Halfcrown, sa below horseman, rev. crowned oval shield, florent concordia regna, 8.99g/12h (Bull p.175, 673/31; SCBI Brooker –; N 2601; S 3120). Surfaces corroded, reverse flan flaw, otherwise about fine, the mint-signature clear, excessively rare £4,000-5,000

One of only three specimens known (not represented in either the Lockett or Brooker Collections) and the first ever to be offered at auction
The footnote should read ‘one of only two specimens known’; the other is a seriously clipped-down example in the British Museum donated by J.D. Cuff in 1832
